Dr Amir Abedi - Principal Dentist

Amir moved to the Lakes from South Wales with more than a decade of experience in dentistry. "Never stop learning" is his motto. He devotes a great deal of his time to further education that was only started with his graduation from dental school in 2004 and continued tirelessly ever since.

He has held various clinical posts over years including, senior house officer in oral surgery- Cardiff Dental Hospital and in maxillofacial surgery- Royal Derby Hospital, a year of vocational training in Brecon and three years as a dental officer for Herefordshire NHS Trust's community dental service. Amir is an associate fellow of College of General Dentistry. He has also obtained a postgraduate diploma in conscious sedation for dentistry from Guy’s Hospital- King’s College London.

For five years prior to joining OXFORD PLACE DENTAL as the principal dentist, Amir worked in general practices in South Wales. Some of the major courses that he undertook during this time included a two-year diploma course in restorative dentistry at the Faculty of General Dental Practice (RCS England), a year-long certificate course in implant dentistry with Dr David Guy in Cardiff, a comprehensive orthodontic course with Dr Ian Hutchinson in Chepstow, a course in facial aesthetics with Dr Bob Khanna in Reading and a course on sinus grafting with Professors Ucer and Wright in Manchester.

Amir and his wife love the Lake District, as they are close to the heart of action, fulfilling their passion for cycling, hiking, rock climbing and water sports.

Sally Hart - Dental Hygiene/Therapist

Sally qualified as a Dental Hygienist from Manchester Dental Hospital in 1988. After working in Manchester for two years, she returned to Barrow, joining our practice in 1992.

In 2009 Sally attended Bristol Dental Hospital, part time over two years to gain a Diploma in Dental Therapy.
She provides a wide range of preventive and restorative treatments and is dedicated in delivering a high level of patient care in a relaxed environment.

Outside of the practice, Sally enjoys spending time with her family, gardening, cooking and painting.

Sarah Wilson - Dental Hygienist

Sarah qualified as a dental hygienist in 1999 having received “Student of The Year” and “Principles Prizes”.

She has been working in the area for over 20 years, her passion in dentistry is oral health and frequently visits local schools to promote it. She is also a tutor on the advanced oral health course for dental nurses.

Outside of work, she enjoys supporting her children with their sporting hobbies, walking and socialising with family and friends.

Joanne Wallace - Practice Manager

It was almost 30 years ago when Joanne came to OXFORD PLACE DENTAL as a receptionist. Her so many years of service in the profession, has earned her a wealth of experience in dealing with patients. Joanne holds the all-important responsibility of book keeping in our practice. She continues to further her knowledge by attending training courses and seminars.

As well as enjoying quality time with her family, Joanne spends a lot of her spare time as a dance teacher, participating in local competitions throughout the year and raising money for charities.

She is also an active member of an Amateur Dramatics Society, having appeared in many shows at the local theatre.

Amanda Knowles - Dental Nurse

Amanda was born and educated in Barrow-in-Furness and has been one of our loyal team members for more than three decades. With her attentive manner, she has gained the trust and friendship of very many long standing patients of the practice.

Amanda is a qualified registered dental nurse and holds certificates in dental radiography and impression taking and is a first aider within the workplace.
OXFORD PLACE DENTAL has been traditionally a referral practice for implants and having had a great deal of training, Amanda has been particularly involved in the care of our implant patients for more than 20 years, leading her to buildup considerable experience in this field.

Outside of work, Amanda enjoys needlecraft, spending time with her family and travelling.

Kimberley Hackett - Dental Nurse

Diploma in Dental Nursing Level 3 QCF City & Guilds 2013

Kimberley lives in Barrow-in-Furness and started dental nursing in 2012, later qualifying in 2015. She prides herself on being very friendly and caring to patients, helping them feel at ease during their visit.

Kimberley works in the practice full time but also does the occasional bank shift for the Barrow Dental Access Centre.

In her free time, Kimberley enjoys taking her dog for a walk in the Lake District and spending time with her family and friends.

Chloe Gillgrass - Trainee Dental Nurse

Diploma in Dental Nursing Level 3 QCF City & Guilds 2013

Chloe joined Oxford Place Dental in August 2021 when she started on an apprenticeship and she is currently working towards qualifying as a dental nurse. Chloe has achieved an A*, A and a C whilst completing her time at Barrow Sixth Form before joining our team.

She is really enjoying working in the practice while completing her training course and prides herself on being very caring and friendly to patients during their visits.

In her spare time, Chloe enjoys walking in the Lake District, going to the gym, and spending time with her partner, friends, and family.
